Inaugural CBT Conference in Cape Town, South Africa

Lata K. McGinn, PhD was recently at the Inaugural CBT conference in Africa, launched and organized by the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Association of South Africa (CBTASA), and held in Cape Town, South Africa. Over 200 people were in attendance at this landmark Congress, with participants and presenters from all over Africa, North, Central and South America, Europe, Australasia, and Asia. Dr. McGinn was invited to give the Welcome Address to open the Congress, to present a Keynote Address on Universal CBT Prevention to Address Global Mental Health Challenges in Youth, and to conduct a workshop on CBT for Depression.

Dr. McGinn is the current president of the World Confederation of Cognitive Behavioural Therapies (WCCBT), a global non-profit comprised of regional non-profit organizations in North America, Central and South America, Europe, Asia, and Australasia that aims to disseminate evidence-mental health practice and training throughout the globe by building partnerships with individuals, organizations, and governments. Her key priority over the course of her presidential term that ends in June 2026 is to work with colleagues in Africa, and supporters throughout the world, including professionals, governments, and the World Health Organization (WHO) to grow and spread evidence-based mental health in Africa and other underserved regions of the world.
